Caring For Your Saltwater Swimming Pool
These days, a lot of people have jumped on the saltwater pool bandwagon, and it’s easy to see why. Saltwater pools offer a lot of advantages, such as softer water and easier maintenance. Easier maintenance, though, doesn’t mean no maintenance. So, whether you’ve already taken the plunge and purchased a saltwater pool or you’re planning to, keep these vital care tips in mind.
Keep it Clean
Just like traditional pools, saltwater pools do require cleaning, and, ideally, it should be done daily. Try to get into the habit of taking care of these tasks each day during pool season:
· Clean your filters
· Clean your skimmers
· Remove visible dirt, leaves, bugs, etc.
· Empty your pump basket
If you know you can’t commit to doing these things daily or even a few times a week, then consider hiring a professional pool cleaning service. The expense is worthwhile since these services can keep your pool in great shape without a lot of (or any!) effort on your part.
Test Your Water
In addition to cleaning your pool, you’ll want to test your water at least once a week. Pay careful attention to free-chlorine levels, as well as pH measurements. If you get a reading that is too high or too low, make adjustments to your salt and/or chlorine levels as needed. Remember, too, that it’s much easier to get water balance under control when levels are just slightly off. So, skipping testing too often could lead to a problem that’s much harder to fix than it has to be.
Inspect the Saltwater Cell
As a final tip, take a close look at your saltwater cell on a regular basis, ideally about four times a year. If you notice any deposits or buildup, you’ll need to do some thorough cleaning. If you can’t remove the buildup, then you may need to hire a pro to do it using professional-grade cleaners.
Ultimately, saltwater pools have a lot of benefits. But, when you choose one, they still require regular care and attention. Fortunately, by following these simple tips, you are and your pool will be off to a great start!
